Kildair operates a state-of-the-art oil terminal in Sorel-Tracy, Québec. The majority of the tank farm is dedicated to heavy oil products. We also store distillates and have the capacity to store crude oil.
Kildair operates year-round and has a seaway, rail car and truck rack capacity to serve its different customers from the Eastern Canada and Northeast United States.
Kildair's terminal is strategically located along the St-Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City. This allows us access to the Great Lakes.
Kildair is active in storing and handling products for customers in the refining industry, but also markets products in the asphalt, marine and land bunker segments.

Leadership
Jacques Ferraro
President and General Manager
Mr. Ferraro joined the Kildair team in January 2013 as Vice-President, Finance and Administration, a role he brilliantly assumed until his appointment in September 2023. Through his leadership, sound financial management and business skills, Mr. Ferraro has played a key role in the strategic development of the organization. Together with the management team and the support of our employees and partners, he greatly contributed to maximizing the capabilities of our terminal that allowed us to meet both the specific and diverse needs of our customers, both in the refined products sector and in our ability and efficiency of handling a wide range of petroleum products which has been particularly observed through our expansion in the marine fuels sector.
Prior to joining Kildair, Mr. Ferraro held financial management roles in major public companies, including Canadian National and CAE. He began his career in 1988 as an auditor at Ernst & Young, a role he held for 4 years. Mr. Ferraro obtained a BA in Business Administration from McGill University (1989), followed by a Master’s degree in Economics from Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) in Montreal (1994), during which time he obtained his Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. Mr. Ferraro is a very committed individual and has been actively involved for over 20 years as a founding member of the Montreal Thoracic Surgery Research Foundation.
Marc Lemay
Human Resources and Transport Director
Through his various experiences over the past 25 years, Marc has acquired extensive expertise in human resources management and labor relations. This includes implementing solutions related to work organization, establishing strategies for occupational health and safety, developing training programs, and implementing policies and programs that promote employee engagement. In his role, he contributes to enhancing our organization’s performance levels by leveraging partnerships, collaborations, and valuing a systemic approach in the search for solutions. Since January 2013, Marc has been leading the activities of our transportation division, which is responsible for ensuring the supply and delivery of our petroleum products to our customers.
History
1929 - Kildair started by specializing in road transportation via Delangis Express.
1966 - Over the course of many years and generations the company expanded. In 1966, it acquired Kildair Service which specialized in regional transportation and soon thereafter focused its operations on trucks and semi-trailers leasing.
1980's - During the 1980s, Kildair diversified into the sale and transportation of petroleum products. This decade also marked the company’s expansion into general transportation. Wintergreen Transport Corporation Ltd was acquired in 1986 and the business now operates a fleet of 250 vehicles allowing Kildair to provide an effective and reliable complementary transportation service.
1988 - Kildair acquired from Hydro-Quebec a 108,000 square foot land property comprised of 3 tanks, buildings, two rail tracks, pipelines and an access right to their private dock.
1995-2001 - Expansion at the terminal of 4 tanks ( park C) for an additional storage capacity of 1 M barrels and introduction to the paving asphalt market.
2002 - Addition of the polymerisation plant for the production of modified liquid asphalt and construction of the quality control lab.
2007 - Kildair entered into a partnership when Sprague acquired 50% of the company.
2011 - Kildair acquired assets from Hydro-Québec in Sorel-Tracy, including seven storage tanks with 210,000 barrels of storage capacity each and a dock on the St-Lawrence Seaway increasing its storage capacity by 1.5 million barrels.
2012 - Sprague purchased the outstanding 50% of the company, resulting in 100% ownership.
2013 - Kildair entered into a long-term contract with a major integrated oil company for crude oil handling and storage utilizing the recently acquired Hydro-Quebec assets.
2014 - Kildair starts its operation of crude oil handling and storage. Meanwhile, Sprague became a publicly traded Master Limited Partnership (MLP) (NYSE: SRLP) and Kildair became an indirectly wholly-owned subsidiary of Sprague Resources LP.
2016 - Kildair invests in its tank farm by adapting and securing four 200k barrels tanks in order to obtain a license to store clean products, namely distillates. A membrane was installed to secure the premises in case of a spill. This investment provided Kildair with a greater capacity to become an active and competitive entity in the marine bunkering business.
2022 - Hartree Partners LP, a well-established global energy and commodities trading firm, after acquiring a majority of Sprague shares in 2021 through the purchase of the Axel Johnson Inc. shares, completed the Sprague/Kildair acquisition process by buying the remaining balance of public shares. After that transaction, Hartree opted to delist Sprague Energy and Kildair from the New York Stock Exchange. As a result, they became private companies again.
2024 - Kildair is making organizational changes to centralize and optimize its activities allowing to focus on the development of its strategic activities. As such Wintergreen Transport assets are sold except its fleet of trailers, tankers and pump trailers dedicated to tanker-truck transportation. The personnel assigned to this activity is also repositioned within Kildair.
Kildair has grown from local transportation into a company specializing in the production, distribution and storage of heavy fuel, liquid asphalt and crude oil.
