Friday, May 17th saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract open at $2.643, just above Thursday’s closing price of $2.639. Fluctuating within a wide range through the morning hours, prices fell to an intraday low of $2.616 within minutes of 9:00AM and rose to an intraday high of $2.656 two hours later. Driven by a combination of above- and below-average temperatures in various parts of the country, demand is expected to increase over the next ten days. Stepping marginally lower into the afternoon, June closed lower on Friday at $2.631.
As of 8:45AM EST this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was down 10 cents; Natural Gas was up five cents; Heating Oil was down one cent; and Gasoline was down one cent.
