April NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract Closed at $1.708 on Friday, March 6th

Friday, March 6th saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract open at $1.745, three cents below Thursday’s closing price of $1.772.  Extending to an intraday high of $1.761 within minutes of the opening bell, prices continued the recent downward trend from Thursday morning.  In addition to the fundamentally bearish market conditions, the impact of the corona virus on the entire market has certainly had an impact on the energy sector as well.  Straddling $1.720 from 11:30AM into the afternoon, the contract fell to an intraday low of $1.705 before closing lower on Friday at $1.708, up two cents on the week.

As of 8:25AM EST this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was down $9.08; Natural Gas was down seven cents; Heating Oil was down two cents; and Gasoline was down two cents.
