Sprague Energy Celebrates Earth Day 2006 with the Queens Clean Air Project Northeast's Largest Supplier of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel QUEENS, NY, Apr. 19, 2006 - Sprague Energy, an energy wholesaler at the forefront of clean fuels development and marketing, is a proud participant celebrating Earth Day 2006 with the Queens Clean Air Project and Clean Air Communities at the Unisphere at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York on Wednesday, April 19th.
Sprague Energy provides the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel to the City of New York Department of Sanitation (DSNY). ULSD is a cleaner burning fuel with greater than 95 percent reduction in sulfur content than current diesel sulfur levels. Although the fuel alone will reduce particulate emissions by 10 to 15% and greater, ULSD is necessary to operate new emission control technology mandated in 2007 diesel vehicle equipment. Sprague's ULSD powers all of the DSNY's on-road diesel vehicles while lowering particulate emissions found in traditional diesel fuel usage. Sprague, a pioneer in the marketing of ULSD, invested in supply and infrastructure to introduce ULSD to the marketplace six years ahead of the federal mandate. Sprague currently markets a ULSD fuel that is only 15 parts per million (PPM) and is working with our customers and partners to ensure they are meeting this guideline as well.
"Sprague Energy appreciates the opportunity to partner with the Queens Clean Air Project and Clean Air Communities in this program," said John McClellan, Sprague Energy President and CEO. "Sprague, and our parent company Axel Johnson, are proud to take a position of leadership in environmental responsibility and we are excited to work with organizations like the DSNY in furthering the positive impact clean fuels are having in our industry."
"Over the years the DSNY has continually demonstrated their commitment to reducing emissions through the introduction of new cleaner fuels and advanced technology," said Steven J. Levy, Sprague Energy Direct of Business Development. "They should be commended greatly for their continued effort in cleaning the air for all City of New York residents."
Sprague Energy has had a significant national role with the education and introduction of ULSD, as well as other cleaner burning fuels such as Ethanol and Biodiesel. The company also has a very active participation in environmental resource associations throughout its Northeast footprint.
Added McClellan, "As clean fuel technology emerges, users need the assurance that ample supplies of clean fuels such as ULSD, required to run these new engines, will be readily available. Sprague Energy will be ready to supply the demand for these new, cleaner fuels."
